Can someone help me find the ratio of Police officer death by suicide than in the line of duty? PLEASE!?
Im writing a speech on the ratio of deaths to
POLICE DEATH BY SUICIDE - POLICE DEATH IN THE LINE OF DUTY
and i cannot find the ratio (%)
PLEASE HELP!!
Answer: The suicide rate per 100,000 people for:
Law enforcement officers: 18
People ages 25-50: 14.6
Total U.S. population: 11.1
Source: Centers for Disease and Prevention, USA TODAY research
The numbers of deaths due to suicide are 2 to 3 times the number of line of duty deaths among law enforcement agencies and emergency workers. Due to the increasing number of suicides in these professions, we have formed the National P.O.L.I.C.E. Suicide Foundation, Inc. We feel many of these suicides occur because of the high "stress" level of these professions and a lack of "awareness" of the signs and symptoms and prevention techniques.
http://www.nytimes.com/2008/04/08/nyregion/08suicide.html
A total of 1,533 law enforcement officers died in the line of duty during the last 10 years, an average of one death every 58 hours or 153 per year. There were 130 police deaths in 1999.
The average age of the officers killed during the past century was 38 and the average length of service was about eight years. Pulaski County (MO) Night Marshal Dotson “Pop” Sutton, 80, was the oldest officer to die in the line of duty. He was struck by a vehicle while on patrol in 1952. The youngest officers, seven of them, were all 19 years old when they died. In 1919, Thomas Knevet, a Hartford (CT) police officer, was also struck by a vehicle and killed. He had worked in law enforcement for 44 years, making him the longest serving officer ever to die in the line of duty.

Do you think the world would be a better place if this war everyone hates Never happen?Really?
In 1959, before Hussein was the leader of Iraq (before he had
completed high school, even), he participated in the assignation of
the then-current Iraqi leader.
In 1974, Hussein participated in the killing of five religious
leaders. Hundreds of other religious people were arrested and tortured.
In 1977, Hussein was responsible for the arrest of thousand of
religious people, and the killing of hundreds of them.
In 1978, Hussein participated in the assignation of former
Prime-Minister Abdul Razzaq Al naef in London. Between 1978-79,
Hussein helped ?eliminate? 7,000 communists in Iraq.
In 1979, Hussein ordered another purge to eliminate political
opponents. Hundreds of top ranking Bathists and army officers were
executed.
During the Iran-Iraq War (1980-88), 730,000 Iranians died. You will
recall that Hussein was the aggressor in this war, because he wanted
full control of the Arvand/Shatt al-Arab waterway at the head of the
Persian Gulf. (For more information on the war, see ?Iran-Iraq War,?
at Encyclopedia.com: http://www.encyclopedia.com/html/i/irani1raq.asp
) Approximately 1,000 Kuwaiti nationals were killed in the Iraqi
invasion of Kuwait. It?s estimated there were 1,500,000 refugees from
this war, displaced by Iraq?s occupation of Kuwait. 750,000 ?endured
brutalities, oppression, and torture.? Although the date for the end
of the war is usually given as 1988, the struggle continued, and
500,000 Iranians were late killed (the Iranians say it was closer to 1
million), 100,000 by Hussein?s chemical weapons. In one day, 5,000
men, women, and children were gassed. (?Sadaam?s Other Crime,? In The
National Interest: http://www.inthenationalinterest.com/Articles/Vol3Issue29/Vol3Issue29Askari.html
and ?Charges Facing Saddam Hussein,? BBC:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/3320293.stm )
Between 1987-1988, 180,000 Kurds ?disappeared,? and 4,000 villages
were razed, in an effort at ?ethnic cleansing.?
In 1983, Hussein killed of 8,000 members of the Barzani clan. Also in
1983, Hussein arrested 90 members of Al Hakim family and executed 16
of them.
Between 1988 and 1999, Hussein killed 7,000 prisoners in what was
called ?prison cleansing.? (?NoBody Count,?
http://www.blogoram.com/000184.php )
We also know that Hussein killed and tortured many other ?enemies?
before the Gulf War. For example: Ayatollah Mohamad baqir Al Sadr and
his sister Amina Al Sadr (Bint Al Huda) were arrested, tortured, and
killed in 1980. In 1981, Haj Sahal Al Salman in UAE in 1981, Sami
Mahdi was killed. In 1987, Nima Mohamad in Pakistan was killed. In
1988, Sayed Mahdi Al Hakim in Sudan was killed.
In addition, we know from Iraqi officials that Hussein put to death
?officers who did not agree to execute people in the street,?
religious leaders who didn?t lavish praise of Hussein, and Shiite
Muslims (for their religious views). (See, as an example, ?Officers
tale: Iraqs web of assassination, ? Christian Science Monitor:
http://www.csmonitor.com/2003/0424/p01s04-woiq.html ) Remember, too,
that mass graves were found during the FIRST Gulf War. (?Charges
Against Saddam,? TalkLeft:
http://talkleft.com/new_archives/004668.html )
In the 1990s, Hussein killed 40,000 Shia?s (or Shiite Muslims) for
their religious uprisings; among those who became prisoners,
approximately 2,000 were executed on November 1993 alone. (?Death
Tolls,? http://users.erols.com/mwhite28/warstat5.htm#Iraq For more on
Shia?s, see ?Shiites,? http://mb-soft.com/believe/txo/shiites.htm ) As
further evidence that the Gulf War did not play a role in Shia deaths,
in 1980, before war with Iran, Hussein hanged two leading Shia
figures. (?Radical Shias Worry Bush as well as Sadaam,? Daily Times:
http://www.dailytimes.com.pk/default.asp?page=story_13-10-2002_pg4_7 )
Since 1974, at least hundreds of Shia leaders have been arrested.
I leave you to draw your own conclusions. Would fewer people have been
killed if the U.S. had not participated in the Gulf War? Or would
Hussein have continued to kill, even without U.S. intervension?
For a look at the usual figures we hear about Hussein, see ?Killer
File:? http://www.moreorless.au.com/killers/hussein-comment.html
I had to erase some of the links sorry, but this is what I have found...As much as I dont like some of Bushs Ideas Hussein had to go.How many more would this man have killed?
His tally was 2 million that we know of
Answer: Saddam was EVIL. He deserved to be eliminated. I hate that we have to play big brother to the world, but someone has to. The world is a safer place since Saddam was brought down. Only ignorant people would think saddam should have stayed in power. And those that say he should can do it from the freedom of their home in the US, they weren't living there

Nazi death camps Commanding officer?
historical fiction Nazi death camps?
iI am writing a piece of historical fiction. Here is the situation the character involved is a person of high moral and ethical standards. in a convoluted series of promotions this person finds that he has become an officer in the German SS in 1939. He is aware of the Final solution to the Jewish situation. He is appalled and totally against the killings of the jews and homosexuals. He is in a position to assume a position of command in the execution process. the reason he is considering it is that while as cover he would be forced to kill a large number he would be able to save a larger number by diverting them into slave labor camps to keep them alive. To be clear his goal is to save lives but to do so he will have to take lives. He believes that to have any effect he must work in the system to do this. He will face trial at Nuremberg. In the end this is an Anti Nazi piece. My question is does he accept the moral consequences for the deaths he did create in order to save many more lifes or attempt to justify his actions based on his true belief that many more would have died without his efforts? Also if as a military judge you had clear convincing evidence that this person did A. Actually take actions and was successful in saving lives does he hang based on the lives he did take or to you credit him for the lives he saved. I understand that in a short paragraph like this it is hard to convey a true image of what I am after but please believe me this is an anti Nazi piece and in no way will portray any German character who murdered in a sympathetic way
Answer: I do not believe the ones this man saved would rejoice or celebrate the deaths of others so they could live.* This man is only trying to justify his killings.

Why do police get away with so much?
I think its becoming evident that we live in a police state where police abuse there powers. I mean think of the cases such as Sean bell. In texas 10+ cops hit a 16 year old with a car and proceeded to beat him/stomp him on camera in a group. A few cops lost there job but no time in prison. Pace university student shot and killed in his car by a police officer and officer got awarded cop of the month. When will it end?????? There are plent more cases like these
Answer: When will it end? It`ll only get worst from here.. arm yourself.

Will America be proud of these policemen?
ATLANTA - Two police officers pleaded guilty Thursday to manslaughter in the shooting death of a 92-year-old woman during a botched drug raid last fall. A third officer still faces charges in the womans death.
Officer J.R. Smith told the judge Thursday that he regretted what had happened.
"Im sorry," the 35-year-old said, his voice barely audible. He pleaded guilty to manslaughter, violation of oath, criminal solicitation, making false statements. "Im sorry I got caught" he says. I dont understand why I am charged. Isnt this the American way? He then put his head down and cried.
Answer: The question in my mind is, "Will liberals use these policemen to smear their own country?"
This is the way liberals think. If one person is guilty of something, liberals will create a link to an entire group of people and cast some level of guilt upon all of them.
This is textbook racism, except in this case, race isn't involved.
Every day, liberals become more and more dispicable and bankrupt of morals.

The Death of Officer James Manor (rest in peace sir) ...?
http://www.lasvegassun.com/news/2009/may/20/police-officer-killed-crash-drove-109-mph-no-light/
I didnt know any of these two men ... but I live in the city of Las Vegas, Nevada and I along with hundreds of thousands mourn the loss of officer Manor.
I also have a bit of sympathy for the other man involved in the crash. (Wait before some of you become angry)
Sheriff Doug Gillespie said Manor was traveling east on Flamingo Road at 109 mph just before the collision, which occurred at 1:49 a.m. on May 7.
No lights, sirens or anything to warn others he was headed their way.
The article says the other driver showed he had a .035 and a .02 blood-alcohol level - (below the legal limit of .08.) He was arrested for dui at the time of the crash.
Darling was turning his red pickup truck left from Flamingo Road when the collision occurred.
My question is this :
If youre driving at a very high rate of speed with no lights, siren or anything that tells anyone that youre headed their way ... Is it possible that officer Manor contributed to his death by travelling at the speed he was?
Im not blaming anyone ... least of all the dead man ... But if he was driving at a much safer speed and with some form of warning ... its very possible he would have been able to respond to the other drivers turning into his path and possibly avoid the accident.
and -
If he was driving at a reduced speed maybe the other driver might have noticed him?
No disrespect intended so please dont fly off the handle. I just want others opinions. Thats why were here on Yahoo Answers. (smiling)
Thanks and thumbs up to all who answer! Just give me time to get back and read the answers.

According to this new article the driver involved with officer Manor wasnt drunk at the time.
Thank you for your answers!
Harold : I appreciate your answer sir. Im truly sorry for you losing your friends. Im trying to see if officer Manor was partly responsible for this tragic set of circumstances. He was speeding (109 mph) with no lights and siren and it was 1:49 a.m. in the city. This area which Im familiar with isnt exactly the brightest part of Las Vegas. Police cruisers are tremendously powerful and fast and is it possible that at his speed with it being dark could the accident partly be his responsibility? Once again Im very sorry for the death of your friends.
Thank you.
I
Harold : I did a search on the names of your friends. A truly sad event in the lives of their families and friends. Thank you for sharing their story.
Answer: The same thing, with almost the same, circumstances happened to two officers from Sheridan Arkansas 13 or 14 years ago.
The only difference was they had just finished there patrol at the city limits and where turning around, thats when a guy hit them broadside in the drivers door.
The civilian driver had been drinking, and charged with that. He beat it in court.
Officers Bobby Watson and Otis Love where killed that night, two very good friends of mine and well liked in our small town.
In the case stated above. the civilian driver will beat his charge if he gets a attorney.
Another officer gets buried.
No one ever wins win there are people drinking on the streets. Drunk or not.

...Brittany Murphy Dead??!!...?
...Damn!!, I Cant Believe It =(, She Was A Great Actress:
LOS ANGELES — Brittany Murphy, the actress who got her start in the sleeper hit "Clueless" and rose to stardom in "8 Mile" before her movie roles declined in recent years, died Sunday in Los Angeles of what appeared to be natural causes, a Los Angeles County coroners official said. She was 32.
Murphy was pronounced dead at 10:04 a.m. at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, hospital spokeswoman Sally Stewart said.
Murphy was transported to the hospital after the Los Angeles Fire Department responded to a call at 8 a.m. at the home she shared with her husband, British screenwriter Simon Monjack, in the Hollywood Hills.
Assistant Chief Coroner Ed Winter said Murphy apparently collapsed in the bathroom, and authorities were looking into her medical history.
An official cause of death may not be determined for some time, since toxicology tests will be required, but "it appears to be natural," Winter said. He said an autopsy was planned for Monday or Tuesday.
Winter said Murphys family was cooperating with the coroners investigation. Funeral arrangements have not been announced, he said.
Los Angeles police have opened an investigation into Murphys death, Officer Norma Eisenman said. Detectives and coroners officials were at Murphy and Monjacks home Sunday afternoon but did not talk to reporters. Paparazzi were camped outside the multistory home, located above the Sunset Strip.

What is the liklihood of an officer dying in the Air Force?
I have a degree in electrical engineering and computer engineering, and I wanted to serve as a developmental engineering officer in the Air Force. The job sounds really challenging and could help me to become a well-rounded engineer faster than in a civilian company. I just wanted to know how common a death of a technical officer in the Air Force is, or what the likelihood of dying is. I always pictured working as an engineer in the military as being a behind the scenes type of guy. Can anybody fill in these blanks for me please?
Thank you, much appreciated.
Answer: There was a Major on base driving with his wife. A piece of shrapnel hit the window, entered her temple and she was instantly killed.
In Saudi in 10/90' someone was cleaning their rifle when it discharged, 1/4 mile away, another service member was struck in the forehead by a bullet.
Unless a computer tower falls, or you touch the wrong electrical lead, I'm pretty sure you're gonna have a decent chance of not being struck by an errant bullet, or shrapnel from an errant artillery round.
All the electrical engineers/computer engineers I know get hurt more bumping into light poles, tripping getting out of their cars.
Just sayin....

Does anyone have any estimates on U.S. Military Field Artillery Officer Deaths?
Do Field Artillery Officers have a high death rate overseas? I dont mean to sound like a coward, I am simply thinking of my family. Any help is appreciated
Answer: they can, it depends on what you do as artillery. Are you an artillery systems maintainer, or just the simple field artillery. Normal field artillery doesnt get used very much in combat because the big booms cause too much collateral damage, it bull shit, but it is what it is. So all the field artillery people do the same things as the infantry, the cavalry, the tankers and the MP's. Field artillery is one of 5 major combat MOS's so even if you arent doing your job, you can always do the infantrys job. I'm an MP Sergeant in Baghdad right now and we do the same things as all the other combat MOS's we do combat patrols and drive around baghdad and do all the crazy stuff. If you have a cordon and serch or a combat patrol, the officers "should be out front leading their soldiers through the patrol. But ive seen many cases where officers just pawn the leading off on the NCO's of the unit. If you are out there doing the combat patrols, your chances of getting blown away are just as high as mine or anybody elses out there

Just 6 days into 2012 and we already have 3 police officer deaths by gunfire. Will this trend continue?
http://www.odmp.org/search/year?year=2012
As I look back at past years I see MOST of the deaths are from auto accidents where the cops thought they were the Dukes of Hazard.
A close second is the donut eating disease of heart attacks.
Answer: well maybe, because most police get a very strong ego from that badge they where and think they are untouchable.its 2012 and a lot of poeple are not taking that shit anymore.plus they enforce dumbass laws that poeple are getting tired of.like weed for example.i don't touch that stuff but poeple should be allowed to smoke what ever they want.and they lie and say its a free country.LOL.

What do you think illegal arraigned in officer traffic death who teaches illegals to run away from accidents ?
INDEPENDENCE TWP. -- As second shift Flint police officers donned "mourning bands" Tuesday afternoon in honor of one of their own killed in a traffic crash Sunday evening, an Oakland County man was charged in the case.
Family and friends of Flint police Officer Vincent DAnna watched grimly as Ramon Felix Pineda, 25, was arraigned before Oakland County District Judge Kelley Kostin in Clarkston. Kostin ordered Pineda, an illegal alien from Mexico who has lived in the U.S. for 12 years, held without bond in the Oakland County Jail.
Pineda is charged with second-degree murder -- a felony punishable by up to life in prison; operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated causing death, a 15-year felony; failing to stop at the scene of a serious injury accident causing death, punishable by a five-year prison term; and driving while license suspended, a misdemeanor.
Pineda stood mute on the charges, which has the same effect as a plea of not guilty in terms of the case against him proceeding. He is accused of striking DAnnas motorcycle from behind with the 1992 Camaro he was driving on Sashabaw Road near the DTE Energy Music Theatre near Clarkstson and then physically running over and dragging DAnna for 70 feet.
Pineda was tackled and held by witnesses when he tried to run away from the scene; witnesses also lifted the car off DAnna, 26, of Goodrich, who died hours later at Genesys Regional Medical Center.
Pineda later told Oakland County Sheriffs Department investigators he had consumed seven beers before driving that evening, Lt. James Ahearn testified Tuesday, swearing out the warrant on which Pineda was charged.
Ahearn told the judge that after hed been read his Miranda rights, Pineda told investigators that "he panicked and attempted to flee" after initially striking DAnnas motorcycle. When he accelerated, trying to get away, he dragged DAnna, fatally injuring him.

Answer: This is awful, but typical. They really DO NOT think any laws apply to them. If he could have gotten away, in his mind it wasn't a crime. It's only a crime if you get caught.
Yesterday, I was at the hair salon and as I came out, an illegal and his very pregnant girl popped out of a honda and into a restaurant known to employ illegals around 10 AM...well before the lunch shift...no state tags, no state inspection sticker and a stolen temporary county tag that was written out for a camaro. I called the police, although I didn't expect them to actually do anything.
Instead, in 10 minutes they were hustling him out of that restaurant and had him cuffed. I'd suggest that everyone call for ANY infraction. MAKE them obey as many laws as we can OR pay the price. You may save a life.
